Feeding the Hungry and Homeless
Faith UMC provides meals to several homeless
shelters and donates food to local food
pantries.
Sign up to provide a shelter meal at Dorothy Day
Place or Sophia House
Dorothy Day Place
Located at 251 N. Stone Street in Rockville,
Dorothy Day Place is a transitional shelter for
single adult women run by Catholic Charities.
Faith members prepare dinner for the women on
the second Sunday of every month.
Sophia House
Located on Wilkins Avenue in Rockville, Sophia
House is a short-term emergency shelter for
women who struggle with issues related to mental
illness, substance abuse, trauma, and long-term
disabilities. It is run by Interfaith Works.
Faith members prepare and serve dinner on the
second Saturday of every month. We also
provide breakfast for the next morning.
Community Based Shelter
Located on Wilkins Avenue in Rockville,
Community Based Shelter is a transitional
shelter for single adult women run by Interfaith
Works. Faith members prepare and serve
dinner for one week a year. We also
provide breakfast and lunch for the week.
Table of Sharing
Food donations of non-perishable items can be
placed on the small Table of Sharing in the
Narthex. Canned foods, boxed foods, and
kids' snack foods (no glass items please) are
welcome. Food is distributed to
Manna Food Center in Gaithersburg or to
Rockville FISH/HELP (a local food pantry
providing emergency assistance).

Faith UMC provides financial support through our
congregational offerings and fundraisers to
local, national, and international
organizations. We also encourage members
to volunteer their time. Here is a listing
of some of the organizations we support in the

Interfaith Works
Interfaith Works (formerly known as Community
Ministry of Montgomery County) is a non-profit
coalition of more than 165 interfaith
congregations of diverse faiths working together
to meet the needs of the poor and homeless in
Montgomery County. Their programs house,
feed, and clothe our neighbors as well as
advocate on their behalf. Faith UMC has
been a member of Interfaith Works since its
inception.
Community Ministries of Rockville
CMR is a non-profit organization that seeks to
improve the quality of life for the most
vulnerable in our community by providing basic
services including housing, healthcare,
homecare, education, and emergency assistance.
Habitat for Humanity
Habitat for Humanity in Montgomery County seeks
to reduce substandard housing by providing a
hand-up rather than a handout to help families
realize the dream of homeownership.
Rebuilding Together
Rebuilding Together is a nonprofit working
to preserve affordable homeownership and revitalize
communities. They provide free
rehabilitation and critical repairs to the homes
of low-income families. |
